The 2012 OSCR 50k ski race is this weekend in Seeley Lake. Gun goes off at 10am (literally). Here is the race flier.
The OSCR is always hard, but it's really snuck up on me this year. The Ozone Pursuit race got cancelled and the days just ticked away and now here we are at OSCR week.
This is a Western Montana Classic, and perhaps one of the hardest endurance events in the region.
1. PACING - Terminator Jensen and Doug will be mad I'm writing this but finding the right pace is difficult. The climb is too long for most of us to "put the dial past red."
2. WAX - It's a 50k loop, no small loops, you go 25k out. Weather changes at different elevations, temperatures change, and there is no way to see what the weather is like up on Rice Ridge. Not to mention you climb and descend to completely different aspects.
3. SNOW CONDITIONS - The snow and trail conditions can change dramatically day of.
Cheers to all OSCR 50k competitors! See you Saturday.
My favorite race announcers of all time.
