Montana Road Racing - Finish Strong

The Montana road schedule is about to heat up again. We have three weekends in a row of time trial and crit madness. The Tour of the Bitterroot is back. Click the link to check out the race blog. The weekend after the TOB is non other then the TdeB!! Yes, the Tour de Bozeman is on for July 25th and 26th. The three week strech closes with the Montana State Time Trial Championships, and the Zoo Town Throwdown. Start doing your crit intervals because all three of those events will have some nasty sprinting.

Sean Kelleys will play host to the Zoo Town Throwdown Beer Tent. They will also be hosting the pre-race post party and awards. Yes please.

This last stretch of the road season could produce some interesting results. Some riders are trying to upgrade, while other riders are trying to find that one result that can make a season. The men's 1,2,3 races have been dominated by a relentless GAS team. Freightrain Frykman has been impressive, but he hasn't done it alone with Morgan and Curry each taking victories. MT Velo riders Frank and Scott have been strong all season and with potential Missoula riders Kiefer and Brink joining the Velo party it could be a strong showing for the orange and white. You can never count out MT sprinters John W., Russ, Alex L., and the newest member of the crowd Brian Williams. The next month is when they shine. Expect high speeds and exciting racing. In the 4/5's look for more battles between JDoll, Vanderwood, Chez Ice, Bruce Bryce, Finley, Scotty and TSmith. Also look for FVV to have a strong crew (Key, Ely, Lucca, Andrew) in this field as most of these races take place in their neighborhood. The ladies battle is straight up filthy this year. With Delphine stepping their game up, NRO has had to rely on super domestique's like LCampbell and Jen L. Versus TDF coverage keeps showing these cheesey ads.....TEAM vs. TEAM vs. TIME...or my personal favorite......LANCE vs. CONTRADOR vs. LEVI vs. THE MOST EPIC RACE. Here's Montana's version for the month of July.....GAS vs. DELPHINE vs. NRO. Mrs. Curry has some help this year with the addition of Chiuchiolo, Yaeso, Zickovich, and possibly TThomas (a Missoulian now). Delphine has two cards to play with Frykman and Marjo, but don't count out Dingman, Frost or Dowd to throw down some massive support. Defending ladies champ NRO brings Tamara, an on form Geraldine, and the collegiate all stars (Luebke and Campbell). Also, don't count out appearances by FVV superstars Corbin and Halvorson. It should be fun to watch.

I wonder if Terminator can win a mountain bike race this weekend.........

The Zoo Town Throwdown - Let's start to talk about it

The Zoo Town Throwdown is Sunday August 2nd. The course will be presented next week. All I can say is that it's a 1.1k course with six, 90 degree corners. The race Headquarters will be Adventure Cycling Association, 150 E. Pine St. New Belgium will be providing the Beer Tent at Sean Kelleys, 130 W. Pine St.

Bring your kid's because the Kid's Race is ON LIKE DONKEY KONG. I'm already putting my money on Kiefer's little guy Felix to take the top step of the podium. I hope that mini Morgan races on his cx bike with a full face. Every kid who races get's a free cone from Big Dipper. There are two age classes; 5 and under and 6 to 10.

5. The race is in DT Missoula. Bars, drip, Horse, tacos, hippies, Wardens.

4. The focus is on the fans. That means lots of spectators, announcing, and major local glory.

3. There's a beer tent on the course. NEW BELGIUM!!!

2. You can show your friends and family your not crazy for dressing up in colored spandex and riding endless hours. Yes, bike racing is cool!!!!

1. All though there's a new name, this event has seen it's fair share of top notch racers. Write your name into the history books with legends of the past; Van Garderen, Elken, Emde, Sundt, Legg, Hahn, Proctor, Swindlehurst, Louder, Schultz.

I wonder if I'll finish the Cascade Cream Puff this weekend......
